Heritage brand supplies bricks for new modern development.
A private sector investment is set to lead the property transformation in Soweto with a new residential estate, Orlando Towers Estates. Rosema Bricks, manufacturer and supplier of clay bricks since 1942, provided the distinctive face bricks that define the development.
The project is part of an investment drive aimed at converting the area surrounding Orlando Dam and Orlando Towers into a sought-after growth node.
Modern aesthetic
Rosema’s Redwood Travertine FBS was specified by Urban Development for the project, creating a look that is modern and attractive for homeowners. The prestigious face-brick project showcases the rich red colour and lightly textured finish of the brick, which has a natural clay-grain appearance.
“Rosema clay face bricks are a long-term investment and a cost-efficient, durable building material,” says Theo Rosema of Rosema Bricks.
The estate will comprise over 2 800 high-quality two- and three-bedroom apartments in four secure estates over the next five years. It boasts top-tier lifestyle facilities including biometric access, a football pitch, kids’ play areas, braai pods, a clubhouse facility, a fibre network, resident parking bays and gas utilities.
Colourful quality
Rosema Bricks proudly manufactures the finest quality face bricks in a range of modern colours and textures, which are shown to their full potential in this unique showpiece. Different building techniques and a variety of brick designs can be used to highlight colour and texture. “Our products offer peerless strength and quality, backed by excellent customer service,” states Rosema.
Community stimulus
The development represents a major investment in middle-income bonded housing for the area and is a stimulus for the local community. “We are committed to supporting small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) from the local business community, in particular youth- and women-owned businesses, when it comes to material sourcing and general labour,” says Derek Steyn, who is leading the development team from Urban Dev Property Development.
Central location
The development is centrally located, with Maponya Mall, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the University of Johannesburg and Bara Mall all in close proximity. Studies show that most residents in Soweto use public transport to and from work, so the location is a major pull factor for first-time home buyers.
