The Media in Africa team were pleased to be back in Mbombela for this year’s DAS Event. Following the success of the inaugural event in 2023, it was a pleasure to return for another CPD event in the Lowveld.

Kicking off agenda for the day was Des Schnetler

Executive Chair of TIPSASA. She shared the SANS 10400-T 2024 Edition 5 changes to thermal insulation classifications, and the new facade testing standards. Importantly, the new standards are stricter, meaning some A rated products may now only be A2.

Adrian Maserow of AMA Architects

Shared the value of drawing into architecture. “Computer generated designs shouldn’t overtake sketching, it should be part of the repertoire.”

DAS Nelspruit

In a one-on-one interview with Marlene van Rooyen, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Media in Africa Group, he discussed the modern practice. Answering questions from the floor, he shared his insights and thoughts on topics from using technology, to international trends, and the value in partnerships.

Richie Amoore from Coverland

Spoke about building new horizons, and introduced a new award, with the chance to win a tip to WAF2024.

Marlene van Rooyen

Presented an interactive workshop on the value of writing copy that converts for architectural practises. Practical tips and examples illustrated how easy it is to get the basics wrong, and how to make it right. Top tip: make sure that contact information for the practice is included, and easy to find.

DAS Nelspruit

The day wrapped up with a video presentation by Callie van der Merwe of COOOP Design Partnership. Based in Australia, Callie spoke on design for behaviour in hospitality.
