Two new Revelstone products were developed for the recently completed Wembley II development in Gardens, Cape Town, for Faircape Developers, to be pedestrian-friendly; textured yet smooth and level; non-slip and cost-effective; and able to handle heavy traffic.
The Jura texture was chosen for its acid-etched finish and contemporary feel to complement this modern building – and Jura Cobble and 80mm Jura Paver were used in the public spaces linking Wembley II to the original Wembley Square.
Devon Double Cobbles were used on all pavement and high-traffic areas in a very light plain grey colour to contrast with the natural Robben Island sandstone walls. The pavers in both areas were manufactured in a custom colour to suit the developer’s requirements. Wembleystone was born!
The roof – planned to be utilised as an area for future events – incorporated an innovative installation involving steel reinforced pavers and sandbags, which left the roof waterproofing untouched and protected by the suspended paved area, and enabling use of the area without compromising the waterproofing or effective rainwater run-off. Ravine Straight Edge Pavers were used, but Revelstone can manufacture any of its pavers in this steel-reinforced option.
