Promotion: Musa Shangase has been appointed as the commercial director at Corobrik.
Musa Shangase has been appointed the commercial director at Corobrik on 1 January 2014. This promotion comes after only a six-month stint as national commercial manager at the company.
The company, as others in the trade, is hugely dependant on government projects, which make up about 65% of the business in the industry. Shangase recognises Corobrik’s important role in supplying clay and concrete masonry materials for these projects in order to enable the contractors to complete the buildings so that ultimately, the community they serve can benefit. “Each entity in a building’s design and construction process has a role to support one another so that the chain will not break,” he states.
He adds that quality with durability is especially important when it comes to building low-cost housing, schools, clinics and other public buildings, in order for them to assure utility with lowest lifecycle costs.
“We are currently seeing numerous alternative building technologies seeking to enter the market, but brick construction in South Africa’s climate is simply the best,” Shangase notes. “Supporting the quest for holistic sustainability, our products are natural, in lifecycle terms as green as it comes with low environmental impacts. Considerable research including the full LCA by Energetics in Australia validates that.”
Shangase previously held senior management positions at both PPC Cement and Saint Gobain Construction Products SA, and was also the managing director of African Brick. He is also a board member of the Clay Brick Association.
