Des Schnetler (TIPSASA Chairperson) and Denise Lundall (SACSA Chairperson) sign contract to fund SANEDI Cool Surfaces lab.

The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) continues to champion the cool reflective coating industry to ensure its sustainability. A daunting stumbling block has been the lack of affordable product performance laboratory testing for South African manufacturers of reflective coatings. The prohibitively expensive testing available abroad, has resulted in a decrease in interest from entrepreneurs, especially SMMEs.

SANEDI and the THERMAL INSULATION PRODUCTS and SYSTEMS ASSOCIATION SOUTH AFRICA (TIPSASA) have been collaborating for several years, to establish a third party, independent laboratory to serve South Africa, the SADAC region and the African continent at a greatly reduced cost, relative to international laboratory testing.

Via the SANEDI/TIPSASA collaboration, SANEDI Energy Efficiency Programme has thus contributed one million, one hundred and fifty thousand rand to equipping the SANEDI Cool Surfaces product testing division within the TIPSASA, passive -energy efficient insulation lab.

The energy efficiency building envelop product testing laboratory is a few short months away from being fully operational, with some key testing already underway, with plans to expand as demand for product testing for the built environment is rapidly growing.
