Polyflor won a Highly Commended award in the Best Flooring Project category at the 2013 Flooring Awards for their involvement in the new Brits Hospital project. This awards category applied to local projects that were completed within 2012 – 2013.
The brand-new 215-bed Brits district hospital which was handed over to hospital management in July 2013 now stands as a beacon of hope for the residents of this small North West town.
The choice of floorcovering can have a major impact on the ‘feel’ of a hospital; research has proven that floors can even aid the healing process. Therefore, flooring was a major factor in our design concept for the Brits Hospital project.
Jos Vancraybex used colour creatively, paediatrics areas were accentuated with bright colours and shapes, nurses’ stations were a focal point with design and pattern work to catch the eye. A jigsaw design was used in the OPD waiting area to create a space for children to play while they wait for appointments. 7 000m² + of Polyflor’s Pearlazzo PUR, Forest FX PUR, Expona Design and Polyflor’s electrostatic dissipative (ESD) flooring was used to create the look required.
All in all, the design, use of colour and choice of finishes make the new Brits Hospital a facility well set to serve the community for many years to come.
