Located on the second floor of 9 Kramer Road in Sandton, Johannesburg, Gerflor’s brand new showroom is a remarkable place where you, your design team and clients can explore flooring materials and co-create solutions. As a global player in resilient flooring solutions, the company has transformed more than 100 square metres into a showroom that offers safe environment and all the innovations that designers, developers and clients would need to come up with the perfect floor for their next project.
Building the local brand
Gerflor has been selling its quality vinyl and linoleum flooring in over 100 countries for many years, but their story in South Africa started around 15 years ago. Country Manager, Vanessa Botha, was instrumental in building the company’s consolidated brand, which furnishes products that are distributed by leading local companies including: products Belgotex, Tiletoria/Floors Direct and Carpet and Décor. Vanessa says the company’s goal was to create a space that is open, easy to navigate and attractive for architects.
“Today’s office environments are very different because of the pandemic. Instead of meeting in a potentially small place, our showroom offers a practical and comfortable space for architects and designers to spend time. Professionals in the built environment are invited to not only explore our products and meet with clients at the showroom, but to also use the space to check their emails between meetings or brainstorm their next award-winning project,” says Vanessa.
Gerflor manufactures and markets innovative, design-led and eco-responsible solutions for flooring and complementary interior finishes. From sports and healthcare to housing and retail, the products have been designed for specific markets and purposes.
“Whether you and your client are designing a clinic, looking at ways to repurpose commercial spaces into residential units, or just want options to consider for a new store or sports development, you will find the industry-specific flooring solutions you need,” says Vanessa.
Donna Wills, Director of 8a Creative was enlisted to help with the project. The showroom is almost entirely surrounded with glazing, letting in an abundance of natural light. As you enter the space, all the product ranges are showcased on the opposite wall. Interactive tables within the showroom allow visitors to explore the flooring ranges in more detail. The Northwood Mokaccino Creation design was installed on the showroom floor, with Dark Blue Linoleum to add more colour to the area. The final touch is the shingly wall, created with the metallica Premium range, which picks up and reflects the light to create a beautiful sparkle within the space.
“A lot of us have had to adapt to working remotely. We are proud to be able to provide people with the option to come to a creative space for work and inspiration. I look forward to seeing you at the new showroom,” concludes Vanessa.
