Carpet Brokers recently appointed Brian Peterson to the position of CEO. Brian joined Carpet Brokers in September 2017 and FLOORS in Africa interviewed him via a Facebook Live post to find out a bit more about him and his plans for the company.
Brian comes from South Africa’s corporate sector and he is very excited to be in the flooring industry. Prior to joining Carpet Brokers, he held the position of Chief Underwriting Officer at Coface, where he led the risk management team for the past 14 years.
“I decided to make a change and move into the flooring market, and I’m very happy with what I’ve seen so far. I’m expecting big things from the business because there is definitely a lot of potential. I’m very impressed by the people who work at the company and we have also made some wholesale changes over the past few months,” says Brian.
Brian adds that Carpet Brokers’ role in the industry is to provide a wholesale service to clients. The company’s secondary role is to focus on their own line of products which they distribute throughout South Africa. The company’s goal is to become the most effective distributor of wholesale flooring products in the country and to enhance the flooring solutions that they are creating.
“One of our main goals for this year is to make sure that our own products are of the right quality and are at the right price point for consumers,” says Brian.
One of the values that Brian hopes to reaffirm at Carpet Brokers is “get back to basics”.
“There is a long legacy that comes with Carpet Brokers, so integrity is very important to us. The company also has a large collective of knowledge, as there are many people who have been with the company for over 30 years. I would like to ensure that the family feel of the business continues into the future and that the customer experience that people receive when dealing with Carpet Brokers is a very positive one,” says Brian, before explaining that customer service is something that isn’t receiving enough attention in the industry.
“Many flooring companies are competing on price or on their ability deliver products as quickly as possible, and while these are all beneficial for a client, the customer experience is also very important. We want clients to know that they are dealing with a professional operation when they come to Carpet Brokers,” concludes Brian.
