PPC’s Cement and Concrete Cube is celebrating its success over the last year and is looking to further encourage collaboration in years to come.
A year since PPC’s Cement and Concrete Cube (C3) was launched in July 2014, the company is celebrating the collaboration and information sharing achieved between over 1 200 registered users so far.
Designed to offer a subject-specific, neutral platform where users can source and share information, C3 has facilitated daily interactions between members from across the sector and has driven a number of key conversations.
“C3 was conceptualised to close some of the collaboration and communication gaps we had noted in the industry,” explains Hanlie Turner, PPC’s technical information services specialist. “Its interactive interface speaks directly to the need for electronic information sharing and networking, driving practical conversations where groups can leverage collective experience and knowledge.”
According to Turner, posts around innovation and creativity are generating the most engagement and groups have grown around subjects such as innovation, architectural concrete, C3 A-Z and energy. Users can join multiple interest groups and can search for content across groups.
“The trend is towards shorter, catchier content for day-to-day interaction, while more technical content is accessed when a specific need for in-depth information is identified,” she notes.
John Sheath, chief executive officer and director of the Concrete Society of Southern Africa, has also joined the Cube. “Contact with others in your sector is continually encouraged, as you receive alerts when new people have joined your group,” he says. “This makes it the ideal platform to share new ideas as well as innovations affecting the wider built environment, including inspiration from architecture, art and building.”
Having received requests for an app that will facilitate greater interactivity, much like Twitter and Instagram, the Cube will continue to evolve. “We are committed to updating and refining C3 to respond to this type of request, as well as to keep abreast of leading social and electronic media trends,” Turner states.
To celebrate C3’s one-year anniversary, PPC will be running daily competitions to encourage users to access the platform, experience its functionality and interact with fellow community members. Visit http://c3.ppc.co.za/ppc/ to be part of the celebration.
