Imagine any clay-brick colour or shape, and Corobrik can make it.
Leading brickmaker, Corobrik, is pushing the boundaries of innovation with its diverse range of products and bespoke capabilities.
Focussed extensively on the architectural market, Heinrich von Wielligh, factory manager at Corobrik’s Midrand facility, says that besides the older, classic products that have been in demand for decades, the company has expanded its range to include new colours, such as black and grey.
Adding colour
The process of adding colours to bricks is meticulous. “We integrate the colours into the clay body itself, using oxides or pigments,” explains Von Wielligh.
This ensures that the colour is an inherent part of the brick and not just a surface coating. Developing new colours is possible, but it can be quite costly due to the price of the pigments.
When it comes to colour trends, there is a noticeable shift towards earth tones. “There is a growing demand for colours such as white, black, grey and brown.
We have recently developed several new colours that are becoming increasingly popular,” notes Von Wielligh.
“Our central laboratory in Midrand is accredited for various tests. We conduct small sample runs to develop new colours and ensure they meet our stringent standards before full-scale production.”
Custom offering
The company’s bespoke capabilities extend beyond just colour variations. “For special projects, we can produce custom shapes and colours. For instance, we have recently collaborated with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) to develop specific shapes and colours for its corporate requirements,” says Von Wielligh.
One of its latest achievements is the successful introduction of the new Breeze block, similar to an imperial brick but with different core configurations that create unique patterns,” reveals Von Wielligh.
“This new design will enable us to produce in larger quantities and be more cost-effective for our customers.”
Focussed on quality
Quality assurance is paramount for Corobrik, with a team of consultants who specialise in cleaning and quality assurance. Proper cleaning during construction ensures that the final product looks at its best.
In addition, Corobrik has a building school to train bricklayers and offer on-site training and assistance to ensure successful projects.
Corobrik has an expanded product range and provides custom solutions for architects, catering to their specific needs.
