Building much needed industry skills

Born from a vision created by industry veterans, African Academy (AA) was built on the premise of addressing the shortage of well-trained draughtspersons. Move forward 26 years and this vision has evolved into a premier Draughting and Designing Academy.

The institution offers a range of courses in the built, engineering and architectural sector that are recognised as per industry standards and are delivered by highly qualified and vastly experienced industry experts. African Academy prides itself on its academic record, which has maintained a 75% pass rate for the past ten years, thus ensuring the calibre of graduates entering the industry.

Investment in future
The operating model of AA, with an 80% employer placement rate on graduation, is unique. It does not simply churn out graduates, it produces professionals ready to step into industry roles. “As a forward-thinking institution, we invest significant time and resources in engaging directly with companies to provide a platform in which organisations have access to our students. This plays a pivotal role in allowing industry professionals to identify raw talent as opposed to recruitment processes,” explains MD Kubera Naidoo. Some of our graduates are now business owners in their specific fields while others are making strides in women empowerment and are at the forefront of large developments in the draughting world.

Quality education
Defined as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the private higher education sector, AA is funded by donations, grants and other non-governmental funding initiatives. These funds are used to sponsor students who are from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and are unable to afford tertiary education. Despite being an NGO, the quality of education and time invested in each student is incomparable. Over the past 10 years, in excess of 3 000 AA graduates have been recruited and we are proud to have had 81% offered permanent positions or promotions, highlighting the value recruiting an AA graduate.
