The Black House in Benoni showcases some truly amazing brickwork as a feature element within the home. Designed by Drew Architects, the home is low maintenance yet striking through the sculptural use of the humble brick.

The use of a simple black brick was elevated to more than just a wall – bringing colour, interest, texture and pattern to the design.
Through careful craftsmanship, the effect of the wall leading to the front door is that of the wind blowing a rough brick wall into a smooth one. Placement of the bricks at an angle adds an exciting element.

Top tip: “The need for low maintenance drove the choice to use brick, but it was pushing it to the limits to see what we could achieve.” – Andrew Payne
