Contractors often see the edges of a floor as non-focal areas when installing flooring systems, paying them little attention or seeing them as troublesome & time consuming. However, well executed edges are the cornerstone of any successful flooring installation, improving the overall appearance, which can put your floor ahead of the rest.
Brian Clark, director at Diamond Products, manufacturer of diamond tools and equipment, says good edge work is especially critical when processing aesthetic surfaces such as polished concrete or decorative screeds. He adds that it is just as vital in the mechanical preparation of an overlay, coating or system, as poor preparation, whether of the floor edge or body, can lead to the floor product failing, delamination and even unsightly transference.
Brian believes it is critical that the edges of a floor be given the same level of attention as the body. He says to achieve consistency throughout a floor, it is recommended that edges be processed using the same steps as the body of the floor and that the edging process runs one step ahead of the floor body process, mainly due to machine capabilities.
“Unfortunately, some contractors lack expertise or adequate tooling to attend to floor edges correctly or may not have enough time to focus on edges. We can help them achieve success with our dust-free edging systems, on-site technical support and training workshops on how to successfully process edges and corners as well as all aspects of mechanical floor processing”, says Brian.
