1-3 March 2023: Online course via Microsoft Teams.

8-10 March 2023: Holiday Inn Sandton.

14-16 March 2023: Protea Hotel Sea Point, Cape Town.

28-30 March 2023: The Capital Pearls, Umhlanga, Durban.

Up-to-date design approach to asphalt mixes

The course aim to present an up-to-date design approach to conventional hot-mix asphalt and special mixes.

• This includes mixes produced at lower temperatures known as warm-mix asphalts, stone-mastic asphalt porous asphalt and mixes intended for patching and pothole repairs.
• This includes cold asphalt, mixes for light traffic in residential areas and mixes with reclaimed asphalt and/or waste materials (e.g. slags).

A more detailed mix design process and procedures based on the most recent approved guidelines for these special mixes are provided in this course, including reclaimed asphalt.

Aim of the course

The course programme, compiled from reliable sources as well as knowledge and experience recorded by the local asphalt industry and other institutions, aims to present the scope of the asphalt manual.

The participants will get a thorough understanding of each test and related processes while instructing on the participants’ procedures and techniques, which will maximise testing accuracy and repeatability.

Participants will receive training over the entire range of activities related to asphalt mix design and testing: Aggregate sampling and batching, testing aggregate properties, mixing, short-term aging, compaction and testing of both loose and compacted asphalt mixtures.

After the course

The course will help participants to make critical decisions in the lab and on the construction project, using the background knowledge gained from the course. Due to the high demand for this workshop, it is advisable to enrol as soon as possible as seats are strictly being given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
