Bentel Associates International, an award-winning architectural firm, has expanded their business with a new offering called Bentel Interior Graphics (B.I.G.) This women-led division was established to make a difference in how spaces are viewed and utilised in the retail, office and hospitality arenas.
Some of the projects under B.I.G.’s belt include the flagship Pick n Pay on Nicol, with the Cell C Campus (Johannesburg) and the FNB Umhlanga (Umhlanga) in the Interior Architecture space and Whale Coast Mall, Greenstone Mall and Clearwater Mall with the provision of Wayfinding Signage.
The women behind B.I.G.
The three dynamic women who are spearheading this division are Lee-Anne Fletcher, with 20 years’ experience in the industry, who manages projects of varying scale and complexity; Susan Chacko, who has over 15 years’ experience in Interior Architecture in the retail and hospitality environment and Rachna Lanewala, with over 20 years’ experience, specialising in retail environment design, store planning, visual communication and corporate interiors.
When asked about the latest trends in office design in South Africa, Susan Chacko says that workspaces which aren’t quite homey, but not exactly corporate, are what clients are looking for. “Spaces that are comfortable and functional are gaining traction. This includes private meeting spaces that offer flexibility and spaces that are equipped digitally to attract the right employees and to remain competitive in an almost exclusively digital world.”
She adds that clients are now expecting a more holistic solution – not just the physical space, but also the digital world, with sustainability becoming a core consideration.
Clients also expect you to consider the company culture and the way the team works, which means that the cookie cutter solution will not be acceptable,” concludes Susan.
