Wet pour flooring offers a seamless finish, even with intricate patterns, reducing the risk of tripping.
Seamless Flooring Systems is South Africa’s only dedicated playground flooring manufacturer. Its flagship product, PLAYSaFE, stands out as the country’s first and only internationally certified playground safety surfacing system.
The company’s managing member, Jeremy Stewart, is renowned as an expert speaker on playground safety, compliance and artificial grass. His insights have significantly shaped industry practices, which is promoting safer play environments for children.
Playground surfacing system
Using pre-coloured SBR granules and high-quality polyurethane binders, PLAYSaFE delivers unmatched durability and performance. Rubber feels smooth and soft underfoot, cushioning the body’s joints and ligaments, while being incredibly durable.
The safety flooring is ideal for playgrounds, multi-use game areas, athletic tracks, water theme parks, creches, daycare, nursery schools, schoolyards, open-air gyms, training studios and public parks.
Impact protection slabs
The most popular safety rubber flooring system for playgrounds is impact protection slabs (IPS). It is a cost-effective option for playground flooring in South Africa, and it is simple to install.
IPS can be supplied in either SBR rubber, EPDM rubber or a combination of both rubbers, and in a variety of thicknesses.
Slabs are available in multi-colour mixtures, where two or three colours are combined. Glitter can also be added to any of the slabs to create some sparkle. There are also letters, numbers and slabs with motifs on them.
Wet-pour flooring
Wet-pour flooring is unrivalled for its seamless aesthetic and wear functionality. It is quick to install – 100m² can be laid in two days and can be ready for foot traffic within 24-48 hours.
The flooring system is mixed on site, combining specially developed resins with rubber crumb. This is hand-trowelled onto the surface by a professional installer, to a specified thickness, depending on the requirements of the project.
The critical fall height of playground equipment determines the thickness of playground safety flooring required, as well as the necessary placement of the safety flooring.
Wet-pour safety rubber comes in either SBR or EPDM colours.
Safety standards
Seamless Flooring Systems’ training network expands across South Africa, and neighbouring Namibia and Botswana. It embodies Stewart’s commitment to knowledge sharing and elevating industry standards.
He has emerged as a cornerstone of playground safety and surfacing legislation in Southern Africa, making impactful contributions to national and international standards.
Pursuit of excellence
As chairman of the South African Sports and Play Industry (SASPI), Stewart’s leadership extends beyond symbolic representation. He oversees the strict enforcement of SANS 51177 safety standards, which set the benchmark for playground safety in the region.
Through his multifaceted career, Stewart has set a gold standard for playground safety, inspiring a new era of proactive engagement and compliance that prioritises child welfare and industry excellence.
“The need for safe play areas in cities has never been greater, as the law protects children and parents against careless play surfaces.” – Jeremy Stewart.
