A range of adhesive products from TAL were specified for floor & wall tiling at Checkers Hyper Menlyn.
More than 9 000m2 of floor and wall tiling was successfully completed at Checkers Hyper in Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria, using specialist tile adhesives and ancillary products from TAL.
Approximately 8 000m2 of porcelain tiles were fitted onto internal power-floated suspended concrete slabs. In addition, over 1 000m2 of ceramic, porcelain and sandstone tiles were fitted onto the walls. TAL worked closely with appointed contractor HL Pardal & Son to ensure the success of the six-week project.
TAL Technical Consultant, Schalk Pelzer, explains that rapid-setting TAL Goldstar 6 was used to affix porcelain tiles onto the floors. Quick-setting TAL Goldstar 12 was used to affix porcelain and sandstone tiles onto walls, while TAL Professional was used for ceramic wall tiles.
In addition, TAL Quarry Grout was used for trading and staff areas, while TAL Wall & Floor Light Grey Grout and TAL Super White Wall Grout were used for walls. TAL Industrial Antibacterial Fine Epoxy Grout, ideal for hygienic conditions, was applied in the butchery, fishery, bakery and delicatessen.
Enhanced flexibility was required in the adhesive and grout system for the floor tiling, as this was installed onto a suspended slab. “TAL Bond, a modified latex-based additive, was used to enhance the bond strength, flexibility and water resistance of the adhesive and grout for the floor tiling,” concludes Schalk. “A TAL Keycoat primer slurry improved adhesion to the power-floated substrate.”
