During a recent visit to South Africa, the American Concrete Institute (ACI) reconfirmed its international partnership with Cement & Concrete SA (CCSA).

Founded in 1904, the ACI’s mission is to develop and share knowledge about concrete and its uses. This non-profit technical society is one of the world’s leading concrete associations. Headquartered in Michigan, United States of America (USA), the ACI has a global membership of over 30 000 members, a student membership of about 15 000 members, 93 chapters, more than 250 student chapters and 64 international partners.

Concrete discussions

Dr Charles Nmai, ACI president, and Bernie Pekor, ACI director of international business development, held discussions with Bryan Perrie, chief executive officer of CCSA, and Hanlie Turner, business development manager of CCSA, on a range of topics.

Dr Nmai said the ACI discussions included sustainability, concrete industry productivity and the dissemination of concrete knowledge. He congratulated CCSA on the publication of the 10th edition of the globally acclaimed concrete reference book, Fulton’s Concrete Technology, adding that CCSA has a key role to play in helping to advance the quality of concrete construction in Africa.

Local benefits

As an international partner of the ACI, CCSA members have complimentary access to selected ACI publications via CCSA’s Information Centre. The winners of CCSA’s prestigious biennial Fulton Awards were last year entered into the ACI Awards for Excellence, and the Fulton Awards winners in 2024 will also be entered.

Global excellence

Turner explains: “This valuable collaboration substantially promotes global concrete excellence by making the technical expertise of each organisation available to fellow partners through publications, meetings, conferences, Internet links, committee membership, certification activities and other activities.”
