Aboriginal art wallcoverings for birth centre

Clémence Hardelay, a designer at Creative Matters, collaborated with Christi Belcourt, a Métis artist, to reproduce two of Belcourt’s original aboriginal paintings into hand-knotted rugs for the Toronto Birth Centre. Belcourt provided four pieces of original artwork and four wallcovering design options were digitally printed on type II vinyl for the community-based healthcare facility.

Belcourt’s artwork was reworked to create uniquely beautiful wallcoverings that fit the dimensions of each wall to enhance the safe, comfortable and relaxing, family-centred environment of the birth facility. The recreations were particularly complex and took time to create, but Hardelay says it was a privilege to have the opportunity to appreciate the great detail and meaning behind each of Belcourt’s wallcoverings.
