 Global research shows quest for calm 

 Extensive research into the global social, design and consumer trends for 2024 reflects that in an uncertain world, there is a quest to belong, a need for calm places and the search for moments of joy in everyday experiences. Identified by in-house colour experts and international design professionals, these three trends will influence life in the coming year. 

 Palettes of colour 

 Homes are created as a “special somewhere”, grounded in individual memories and relationships. The Dulux Colour of the Year, Sweet Embrace, and its three complementary colour palettes can help achieve this. It is personalising environments to fit the current times and bringing a sense of stability and moments of joy to living spaces. 

 Three colour stories 

 “Our Colour of the Year for 2024, Sweet Embrace, works beautifully as a stand-alone shade, and can also act as a positive foundation for a host of other shades,” says Dulux colour expert, Palesa Ramaisa. As part of the 2024 ColourFutures™ Colour Trend Report, three decorative paint colour stories have been designed around Sweet Embrace: 

• A warm colour story (a personal space): Shades of stone, soil and clay. The global earth tones help create a personal space that is familiar and embracing.  
• A calm colour story (a simplified space): Bringing together the soft greens and blues of the woods and sea to create a quiet space that is peaceful, understanding the value of simpler things. 
• An uplifting colour story (a friendly space): Lilacs and modern yellows create a friendly, light-hearted space that is energised, joyful and open to new possibilities.
