I am currently residing in the United States of America and I had the privilege to attend the inaugural Domotex USA Show in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this year. The exhibition was held at the World Congress Centre and it covered around 8 300m² of floor space.

Over 275 exhibitors from America and the rest of the globe showcased their products at the event. Compared to Domotex in China, with 1 500 exhibitors covering approximately 150 000m² of floor space, the Atlanta show was much smaller as it caters more for the American markets than the world markets.

The overseas exhibitors at the Domotex USA event were from China, India and many European countries. I didn’t see any exhibitors from South Africa, but I did recognise a few companies that are represented in South Africa, namely Bona, Loba-Wacol, Lagler, Lalegno, Rubio Monocoat and Tramex.

One product that caught my eye was a system that creates a fast and dry solution to a self-leveling screed by means of a board system. The Jumpax* Classic is a unique acoustic fast-track sub floor preparation system for the immediate glue-down of all resilient floorings, such as sheet vinyl, LVT´s, linoleum, cork, rubber, but also carpet and carpet tiles.

It is a double skin of boards that instantly deals with problematic subfloors. I met with the product developer, Gerry Maatjies, at his booth and he is extremely interested in finding a partner in South Africa to distribute his product.

Flooring suppliers from across the globe flock to the Domotex events in China and Germany, as these countries are huge world exporters of flooring products. In my opinion, the USA event was very subdued in comparison, but then it is a show for the American market. I am still of the opinion that the best possible platform for South African flooring manufacturers who want to exhibit their products to the world is the Domotex event in Germany and China. These events are the biggest annual flooring exhibitions in the world.

National Wooden Flooring Association Expo in May
I am pleased to announce that I have landed the Elastilon agency for the USA and will be exhibiting at the National Wooden Flooring Association Expo (NWFA Expo) in Fort Worth in Texas in May. This show aligns with my experience and interest as the NWFA Expo exclusively showcases real wood flooring, solid- and engineered wood plus all of the related products such as adhesives, sealers, underlays, sanding equipment, fasteners etc., plus of course my beloved Elastilon, will be exhibiting at the event. If I can assist anyone with any USA matters, my e-mail address is stevesuntup@gmail.com.
