fruitful collaboration

The fabulous cover image on Issue 2.2024 of Floors Magazine was “The Bombom Tutti Frutti Tufted Rug”.

This wonderful design is a result of a collaboration between renowned Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos, and Roche Bobois.

Bombom Collection

The Bombom collection was inspired by Vasconcelos’ wall paintings and crochet creations. It features round and fluid shapes, vibrant colours and a sense of comfort. Creating a bridge between museum and gallery spaces and home environments, it offers pieces that interact with living spaces in a playful and inviting manner.

The Tutti Frutti rug features organic, colourful and luscious shapes set against a black background. These shapes are characterised by variations in thickness that create original and visually striking forms that stand out. This contrast emphasises the vibrant and dynamic nature of the collection’s designs.

fruitful collaboration

The Bombom Collection is designed by artist, Joana Vasconcelos, whose work highlights artisanal traditions and Portuguese savoir-faire.

The artist

Joana Vasconcelos explores themes such as the status of women, consumerism and collective identity through her artwork. She also highlights artisanal traditions and Portuguese savoir-faire in her work. Vasconcelos’ art serves as a platform for questioning societal norms and celebrating cultural heritage.

Vasconcelos has showcased her artwork at prestigious venues such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the 55th Venice Biennale and the Palazzo Grassi/Fondation François Pinault in Venice. Her first retrospective exhibition took place at the Museu Coleção Berardo in Lisbon.

Notably, Vasconcelos made history as the first woman and youngest artist to exhibit her work at the Palace of Versailles, solidifying her place as a prominent figure in contemporary art.

Vasconcelos’ carpets are available exclusively at Roche Bobois showrooms in South Africa.
