Saint-Gobain Gyproc launches a revolutionary plasterboard that uses new technology that affectively improves indoor air quality.

Saint-Gobain Gyproc has recently announced the launch of Activ’ Air, a revolutionary plasterboard that uses innovative technology to actively improve indoor air quality by taking volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and other pollutants, like carbon monoxide, out of the air and keeps them out for up to 75 years.

The Activ’ Air technology takes the VOC’s and other pollutants, and converts them into safe, inert compounds that, once captured in the board, cannot be released back into the air.

There is a rapidly growing awareness of the importance of indoor air quality and its impact on health and productivity.

Activ’ Air is ideal for use in public environments, such as hospitals and clinics, schools, work environments and homes. The product can be used with most water based acrylic and epoxy paints and breathable wallpaper. It is a passive system, which makes it more effective in reducing VOC’s than additional ventilation.

Activ’ Air should be installed before any decoration is done. Any decoration that will be added should be breathable to allow VOC’s and other pollutants to be absorbed by the board.

Finishes that restrict the board surface permeability may inhibit the VOC absorption properties. Tiling, marble and other wall coverings can also be applied, but are not recommended, as this will limit the absorption of VOC’s and other pollutants for the covered area.

In addition to carrying the Institute for Building Biology in Rosenheim’s seal of approval, Saint-Gobain Gyproc has placed a technical enquiry with the Green Building Council to have the product included as part of the guidelines in the VOC section. The renowned independent ECO Institute in Cologne, France, as well as the Eurofins laboratory group in Denmark, have also tested and certified Activ’ Air’s effectiveness in all detailed applications to indoor spaces.

The indoor environment is affected by many factors, including local climate, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building materials, occupants, and potential containment sources such as furnishings, moisture, and outdoor pollutants. As research suggests, people tend to spend 90% of their lives indoors, which means that Activ’ Air is an ideal solution for removing 100% of aldehydes and other pollutants to ensure a clean, healthy living and working environment.
