A brand new online experience

The new Building and Décor website is all about improved user experience and accessibility, and includes exciting new features. Launched on 1 February, the new Building and Décor website is geared for digitally savvy users who accesses content both from behind their computers and on mobile devices while on the go.

Representing both the WALLS & ROOFS in Africa and FLOORS in Africa magazines, the new website is all about improved user experience through updated technology.

Tania Wannenburg, digital manager at Media in Africa, explains that to keep up with what is current in the digital landscape, the new look and structure were designed for “mobile first”, since this is how the majority of users access the content, as well as to ensure an engaging user experience, feature appealing visuals and facilitate a more categorised way to find information.

New features
•    A functionality that allows any user to “love” articles.
•    Customised profile sections where users can collate their favourite articles.
•    New category sections such as Be Inspired, Sustainability, Bizhub and Latest Projects.
•    Content that is easy to navigate, find and share online.
•    Product catalogues, which can be accessed from the home page or via the materials section.
•    Videos that provide a better view of projects, features interviews with industry experts or demonstrates product functionality.

Advertising and branding
There are also more advertising and branding opportunities for companies than ever before. Prime space in the form of featured articles, client videos and product catalogues that include logos, downloadable spec sheets and product descriptions are just some of the new ways that clients can get exposure on the new site.

Popular advertising features that were on the older website, such as banner advertising and branded website skins, have also been incorporated into the new design and layout.

A growing audience
Roxanne Mancini, editor at FLOORS in Africa magazine, points out that publishers simply have to look at the engagement rates and fan base that the brand is achieving to realise that we are doing something right.

“Our readership keeps growing and we have become the go-to source for all content relating to flooring, walls and roofs – both online and in print.

“Our digital footprint has been expanding for several years,” adds Marlene van Rooyen, WALLS&ROOFS editor and business unit manager. “We are definitely leading the industry in terms of taking content to the market.

“Print gives you longevity, whereas digital gives you accessibility. The new website is just another way that we are catering to all the needs of our readers,” she concludes.
