DSV Park in Pomona, Kempton Park in South Africa’s Gauteng province, was designed as a strategic, multi-disciplined logistics hub with the full scope of the project equal to roughly 55 rugby fields.
Each of the functional units became record-breaking projects for DSV and necessitated a joint project team working in close partnership. The team included Sika, DG Consulting and WBHO, each bringing their respective skills and expertise to ensure the success of the project.
Key statistics
• The logistics warehouse at 80 000m² is three times the size of any other project this year.
• The crossdocking facility at 32 000m² is double the size of any previous facility constructed.
• Total site concrete hardstands of 130 000m² and an office block at an additional 10 000m² is one of the larges projects to date.
Durable flooring of vital importance
During the flooring phase, a durable dry shake surface hardener was specified, with SikaFloor®-3 QuartzTop being the ultimate product owing to its successes and impressive track record.
A mineral dry shake floor hardener, SikaFloor®-3 QuartzTop is a one-part, pre blended (coloured to spec) hardener for concrete comprising cement, specially selected quartz mineral aggregates and admixtures. Application was done at 5kg per m² and was then power floated, followed by a 14-day wet curing.
