The editor of WALLS & ROOFS, Marlene van Rooyen, has been asked to serve on the regional panel of adjudicators for the PIA’s Awards for Architecture 2015.

Marlene van Rooyen, editor of WALLS & ROOFS, has been appointed by the Pretoria Institute for Architects (PIA) Awards Committee to serve on the regional panel of adjudicators that will decide the PIA Awards for Architecture 2015 winners.

Together with the other panel members, that include architects, academics and an engineer, she has scrutinised 62 entries, and will be visiting approximately 44 project sites, scoring each one carefully with the aim of selecting the best of the best.

“The standard of the entries is very high and there is an interesting architectural vernacular that is noticeable across projects,” comments Van Rooyen. “I especially enjoy seeing how architects think and apply their minds to each specific problem, from unbuilt proposals to commercial and residential designs.”

As part of the prestigious PIA Awards, Media in Africa’s WALLS & ROOFS and FLOORS Stand-out Project of the Year award will be judged for the first time. All the winners will be announced at the awards function which will form part of the IDEA Design Conference at the CSIR Conference Centre on 22 September 2015.
