Taking a look at how one company responded to the needs of an industrial project’s flooring which is exposed to several demanding elements.
To fulfil the unique needs as identified by the N4 Gateway Industrial Park project to the east of Pretoria, Technical Finishes was selected to supply materials in conjunction with Permafloor one of their approved applicators to apply 3 000m² of Pumadur SL, a polyurethane (PU) resin screed.
Pumadur SL is a two-to-three-millimeter, self-levelling polyurethane screed system that offers a matt finish and excellent chemical resistance. At the time of assessing the correct system for the client, there were several key criteria that had to be met. Firstly, the coating had to be resistant to varying temperatures, while being slip- and wear-resistant in order to withstand constant forklift traffic.
Secondly, after allowing the new concrete floor to dry to less than 5% moisture content, Permafloor, had to mechanically grind the surface to obtain an adequate profile for the adhesion of the Pumadur primer. The Pumadur system was applied in panels corresponding to the saw-cut joints, taking into consideration the rapid curing time of Pumadur SL polyurethane flooring system.
Lastly, on completion of the application, the joints were re-cut to facilitate any movement and filled with Polyurethane joint sealer. Thereafter, coving to the perimeter was installed using a modified epoxy screed that could accommodate the movement of the floor to the ISO walls, ensuring that the system conformed to HASSOP standards.
After the successful installation of this durable product, Technical Finishes and Permafloor has added another distinguished project to its already impressive list of installations.
