CemteQ launched a number of products at the African Construction Expo in Midrand, including an insulating, lightweight screed material, called ScreedPerl, which can significantly save on heating costs and can also be used to insulate roofs.
With traditional materials, the R-value for a 30mm floor screed would be 0.042m2.K/W compared to ScreedPerl with an R-value of 0.316m2.K/W, providing approximately 7.5 times the insulation of ordinary plaster. The installed weight of the screed is between 460-470kg/m3 which equates to roughly 20% that of traditional screed material. The lighter weight makes it easier to transport and also offers distinct structural benefits to any flooring system. The product can be applied to various uneven of curved surfaces, but isn’t suitable for high wear areas. Specifiers would therefore need to cover the screed with a floorcovering such as tiles, carpet or wood in these spaces.
ScreedPerl was launched as part of CemteQ’s new range of Perlite and cement composite products. These composites use Perlite as an aggregate replacement, together with cement and special admixtures for bespoke plaster, screed and concrete applications. Because of the unique nature of Perlite, these composite products are lightweight and offer significant insulation, fire-resistance and acoustic properties.
