New Chairperson takes over the reins to continue the legacy left behind by the passing of the previous title-holder.
Following the sudden death of the late Professor Russel Botman, Chairperson of Cape Town Design NPC, the Board has appointed Professor Francis Petersen as its new Chairperson.
Professor Petersen is the Dean of Engineering and Built Environment at the University of Cape Town, and is a registered professional engineer who graduated from the University of Stellenbosch. He also holds a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering and has served on the Board of Cape Town Design NPC since 2012.
Among his many roles as an internationally-recognised academic and prominent citizen of Cape Town, he is also the Chairman of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, serving the academic and research community at national level.
“I have worked closely with Professor Petersen in the context of World Design Capital 2014, and we have already benefited richly from his exceptional leadership qualities,” highlights Alayne Reesberg, CEO of Cape Town Design. “I am confident that the work of the board will continue smoothly as we approach the second half of our World Design Capital year.”
Alayne states that the late Professor Botman left behind a legacy of tremendous achievement accomplished through humility, hope and fierce determination, and they are inspired by his memory and to continue the work he has begun.
