Sandwich panels, which are multi-layer construction elements with diffusion-resistant metal coatings, are essential products for all kinds of construction usage including warehouses, factories, supermarkets, car showrooms, stadiums, swimming pools, cold stores, shipping containers and vehicle superstructures.
These kinds of panels are made up of a polyurethane insulating core and an outer layer of the diffusion-resistant metal sheet. Produced with BASF PUR (polyurethane) and PIR (polyisocyanurate) rigid foam, they not only provide very low lambda value regarding thermal conductivity, but also offer an outstanding combination of excellent flame resistance while sustaining other specified physical properties.

Insulation properties
The high load-bearing capacity of sandwich elements makes them ideal for the construction of large halls, where they ensure optimal and complete thermal insulation without thermal gaps. The sandwich elements are also fit for facades and roofs through their Elastopor® and Elastopir® rigid foam core.

In the residential sector, such insulating elements are especially suitable in flexible sandwich layers for gap-free insulation of pitched or flat roofs with BASF’s Elastopor H systems.

Standards and tests
Sandwich panels produced with BASF’s PUR and PIR rigid foam conform to international standards for building material classification and fire prevention, including DIN 4102 Part 1 (B1 Class), GB 8624-1997 (B1 Grade), KSF 2271-1998 (Grade 3) and FM 4880 (Class 1).

BASF innovative products – Elastopir™ rigid foam has passed high-level fire test such as LPS 1181.The panels retain their dimensional stability, used long-term over a temperature range of -30°C to +90°C. It can withstand temperatures of up to 250°C for short periods with no adverse effects. Furthermore, special polyurethane products can be used to withstand temperatures of +200°C without additional heat protection or can be utilised for cold-temperature applications down to -180°C.

Driven by innovation and design
BASF’s Performance Materials division encompasses the entire materials know-how regarding innovative, customised plastics under one roof.

The division works in close collaboration with architects, contractors, developers and manufacturers to create environmentally-sound housing for all types of climates and satisfy diverse architectural styles. In the process, they also incorporate industry-leading solutions for roofing, insulation and waterproofing, while attending to the smallest of details such as joint sealants and tile grouts.
