In a fast evolving industry like construction, sometimes the best things are the tried and tested ones.
This was definitely the case when it came to selecting thermal insulation for the new Planet Fitness at the Mall @ Carnival shopping centre in Brakpan on the East Rand of Gauteng.
Considering the intricate environment of a health club and training facility, it is important to understand that there is a very specific set of requirements as far as the insulation is concerned, which is often very different from other building interiors.
According to Lyle Jeffery, national sales manager at Rigifoam, the company’s Lambdaboard insulation offered this unique solution and ticked all the boxes of the specific set of criteria as required by Planet Fitness.
Some of the most significant considerations were:
Probably the most important aspect required by the insulation is the ability to control and maintain an ambient temperature together with the HVAC design. “Quite frankly, there is no other product on the market that does it as efficiently as Lambdaboard,” states Jeffery.
Another factor that is simply non-negotiable when designing a facility such as Planet Fitness, is the ability of the internal finishes to withstand high levels of moisture, which is part and parcel of the inside of a gym. In this regard, Lambdaboard is mould- and algae resistant and therefore easily maintains a clean and relatively hygienic surface.
Finally, a factor that can’t be overlooked is the overall finish of the facility. The interior of Planet Fitness was required to be invigorating to stimulate each member using the facility. “Since Lambdaboard can be installed as a ceiling, it is a cut above the rest when it comes to creating a clean, neat and inspiring environment. The ceiling finish in an over-purlin application is simply the best,” Jeffery concludes.
