The onus on healthcare design professionals to create buildings that are a great deal more than places to heal is part of a significant movement towards making healthcare establishments far better environments for the patients, staff and visitors. Intercare offers high levels of patient-focused care prioritising patient safety and comfort, utilizing the latest techniques and technology.
When Boogertman + Partners Architects initiated a new flooring specification for their client’s facilities in Pretoria, they chose Gerflor to supply the products. Gerflor understands how important well-designed facilities are and the role that they play in aiding patients’ recovery, contributing to the overall feeling of well-being in a hospital environment.
A number of Gerflor products were specified including Taralay Impression for the general wards and paediatric areas, Taralay Premuim for the high traffic areas and walkways and Mipolam Robust for the theatre areas. This trifecta of high-quality flooring ensured that the project met the stringent hygienic requirements of the healthcare industry and delivered the technical performance and aesthetics required by the client.
This flooring range is treated with Protecsol* 2, a patented surface treatment from Gerflor that uses UV laser cross-linking to offer high chemical resistance to the main products used in healthcare environments including betadine, eosin and hydro alcoholic solutions. This treatment eliminates the need to apply any acrylic emulsion throughout the lifetime of the product, saving on cleaning time and money as it reduces water and detergent consumption. Other areas in the healthcare facility that received Gerflor products included corridors, reception areas as well as ablution and restroom facilities. That such a large area of a hospital-driven environment could be specified from one single source manufacturer is a testament to the quality of Gerflor’s healthcare product range.
