Custom street furniture lounges, called XXX TIMES SQUARE WITH LOVE, were recently unveiled in New York City’s bustling plaza.

Times Square in New York City recently received three X-shaped permanent outdoor lounges that were custom designed by Jürgen Mayer H. The custom lounges, which are called XXX TIMES SQUARE WITH LOVE, were commissioned by Times Square Arts Director, Sherry Dobbin and unveiled in August 2016.

A maximum of four people can lie down and enjoy different perspectives of the popular tourist attraction when sitting in the X’s. They can choose to read a book, take in the bustling activities in the plazas or simply people-watch.

The XXX lounges draw inspiration from the intersecting 7th Avenue and Broadway Avenue that border Times Square. The triple X theme also pays tribute to the adult-inspired history of the area, which was explained by the President of the Times Square Alliance, Tim Tompkins.

“Mayer H. delivered for us a striking and original street furniture design that not only references Times Square’s X-rated history, but also offers users a very different way of looking at and sharing a place that, on average, is posted on Instagram no fewer than 17,000 times a day,” reads a statement on their website.

The installation by J Mayer H. marks the first street furniture project that has been commissioned for Times Square. Other local contemporary artists and cultural institutions have been asked to collaborate on additional street furniture projects that are being planned in the area.
